Printable Valentine Cards for Kids: Cards to Colour and Fold for Family, Friends and the Whole Class (Ages 3–7)

Printable Valentine Cards for Kids: Cards to Colour and Fold for Family, Friends and the Whole Class (Ages 3–7)

A home-made card is often the first present a child gives on their own. Printable Valentine cards for kids make it easy: the picture is ready, the greeting is already there in big letters, and your child adds the colour, the name and the love. Here is how to choose them, make them and give them – at home or in class, for children aged 3–7.

What makes a good printable card for young children?

  • Big, clear outlines. Thick lines and simple shapes are easy to colour, even for three-year-olds.
  • A greeting they can colour. Words in big hollow letters let older children colour and read at the same time.
  • A space for the name. A “Made with love by:” line on the back makes the card truly theirs.
  • A simple fold. One fold along a marked line – no glue, no fiddly cutting.

Cards for family, friends and teachers

Valentine's Day for young children is about the people they love, so think beyond one card. A card for Mum and one for Dad, a card for Grandma and Grandpa, one for a best friend and one for the teacher. Asking “Who would you like to make happy?” is a lovely way to start.

Mini valentines for classmates

For the whole class, full-size cards are too much work. Mini valentines are small cards with a short phrase – “Be my friend!”, “You're a star!”, “Thank you!” – and “To:” and “From:” lines. Make one for every child in the group so nobody is left out, and spread the colouring over a few afternoons. An adult cuts along the dashed lines, or older children use child-safe scissors; small cut-out pieces are not for children under 3.

How to make the cards

  1. Print the card on A4 or US Letter paper. Thicker paper (160–200 g/m²) makes a sturdier card, but plain paper works too.
  2. Colour the picture and the greeting with crayons or coloured pencils.
  3. Fold the page in half along the dotted line.
  4. Write your name on the back – or draw a heart if you can't write yet.
  5. Give it in person, with a hug.
