St Nicholas colouring pages, a paper boot, crayons, mandarins and gingerbread on a wooden table

St Nicholas Colouring Pages and Boot Craft for Kids (Printable, Free Sample)

On the evening of 5 December, children in Germany, Austria, Poland, Belgium, Luxembourg and north-eastern France polish their boots or shoes and put them by the door. In the morning they find mandarins, nuts, gingerbread and a little chocolate from St Nicholas. In Bulgaria, 6 December is Nikulden – a big name day with fish on the table and friends visiting everyone called Nikola, Nikolay, Nikolina or Nina. Here are simple, screen-free St Nicholas activities for kids aged 3–8: St Nicholas colouring pages, a boot craft and cards to give – and two of the colouring pages are in the free sample.

What’s in the St Nicholas activity book?

The printable St Nicholas activity book comes in four editions, each written for its own tradition – there is no English edition. The German („Mein Nikolaus-Heft“), Polish („Moja książeczka na Mikołajki“) and French (« Mon cahier de la Saint-Nicolas ») editions have 15 pages: 7 colouring pages, a boot to decorate and cut out, a letter to St Nicholas, 12 good-deed stars, a maze and 4 cards. The Bulgarian edition („Моята книжка за Никулден“) has 12 pages: 4 colouring pages, a fish to decorate, 8 name-day cards, a good-deeds page and a maze. All editions print well in black and white on A4. Want to see a few pages first? Download the free sample – 5 pages in the language you choose.

St Nicholas colouring pages

The colouring pages show St Nicholas with his mitre and crozier, St Nicholas walking through a snowy village at night, a boot full of surprises, polished boots waiting by the door, the little donkey that helps carry the gifts, a plate of mandarins, nuts and gingerbread, and the mitre and crozier on a table. The lines are thick and clear, so even the youngest children can colour them.

A St Nicholas boot craft

  1. Print the boot template on plain paper or thin card.
  2. Decorate it: colour the boot, draw patterns, stick on stars or a little glitter.
  3. Cut it out together – scissors always with a grown-up.
  4. Put it out on the evening of 5 December next to the real boots, or hang it on the door.

In the Bulgarian edition, the template is a fish: decorate it, cut it out and give it to someone who celebrates their name day, or put it on the festive table.

A letter to St Nicholas and good-deed stars

The letter page has short prompts – what I helped with this year, what I am proud of, what I wish for – and a big space to draw. Children who cannot write yet can draw, and a grown-up writes the words for them. On the “My good deeds” page, your child colours one star for each kind thing: helping at home, sharing toys, saying thank you, tidying up, being patient. Twelve stars make the days before 6 December a little brighter.

Cards for St Nicholas Day and Nikulden

Every edition ends with cards to colour, cut out and give – to grandparents, friends from nursery or the teacher. The Bulgarian edition has two pages of Nikulden cards: four with wishes and four with names (Nikola, Nikolay, Nikolina, Nina), ready for the name-day visits.
